Watch the Highlights: SynAir-G at the European Parliament

One month ago, on 11 June 2026, SynAir-G brought together policymakers, researchers, clinicians and patient advocates at the European Parliament to discuss the importance of indoor air quality for children’s health.

Children spend up to 90% of their time indoors, including in environments such as daycare centres and schools. The quality of the air they breathe every day has a direct impact on their health, wellbeing and development. Despite the growing body of scientific evidence demonstrating these effects, indoor air quality remains insufficiently addressed within EU policy.

The discussion at the European Parliament highlighted the urgent need to put indoor air quality higher on the political agenda and translate scientific evidence into meaningful impact. The debate stressed the importance of ambitious policy action and cross-sector legislation to ensure that every child, regardless of where they live or learn, has access to healthy indoor environments.

Several priority areas for action emerged from the discussion, including strengthening indoor air quality monitoring, increasing public awareness and promoting healthier behaviours, and integrating indoor air quality considerations into energy efficiency and building policies. Addressing these priorities requires coordinated action across the health, environment, education and building sectors.
